As the coronavirus continues to spread, our thoughts are with the health and safety of our partners in China.
At this moment the outbreak shows no signs of slowing down, and you may be wondering – how can the coronavirus impact shipping and logistics?
The quarantine and lockdown in many parts of China has resulted in a reduction of manpower. Most major container lines have shut down operations out of the river port Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak. While many lines from coastal ports are still running, we will likely see delays.
We expect an increase in “blank sailings” (cancelled sailings), and slower port operations in China (and possibly other parts of Asia).
While it is difficult to distinguish how much of this slowdown is a result of the Chinese New Year, keep these developments in mind as you plan your shipments for the coming weeks, and do not hesitate to reach out to our office with your questions.
